well or wall for a Steadfast character
August 13, 2005
Continuing exploration of problem-solving and justification. Here we take a look at the Steadfast Main Character.
So how does this analogy work for a Steadfast character?
There are two different ways of looking at it.
You have the one where you are in a well, and it is slowly filling up with water. And then you have the one where the water is coming in and you’re trying to build a wall, or a dike, to keep from drowning. You’re on one side of the wall, and the water is on the other.
If I’m a Steadfast Stop character then it is once again the “wall” analogy. I’m building up a wall, waiting for that water to stop - waiting for that external problem to stop.
If I’m a Steadfast Start character then I am basically building something up, waiting for someone to rescue me! I’m waiting for something good to happen.
I’m not specifically worried at how much water there is, it could be good, bad, whatever - all that I know is that it is not for me.
While on the other hand, if I was a Steadfast Stop character then I am totally focused on that water, trying to keep it away from me.
