giving meaning to the meaningless
June 29, 2006
Part of the reason we keep coming back to stories is because they offer us something we can’t get in our own lives.
Reading through some old notes of my conversations with Chris, I came across this inspiring tidbit:
Stories give meaning to the meaningless.
We were talking about how, unlike life, in a story you get answers - Part of the reason why we keep coming back to them over and over again. An author gives the answers to an audience by crafting meaning into characters, plot, theme and genre.
When you consider that there is no meaning without context, you can instantly see how important a “context machine” like Dramatica is to storytelling - if you want to tell significant, meaningful stories.
