Welcome!

It seems like maybe this is your first time here. It should be pretty obvious by the obnoxious banner overhead, but if you’re still confused what’s going on here be sure to read what this site is all about. If you like what you find here, I also encourage you to subscribe to the RSS feed. In this way, you can always stay up-to-date with this in-depth look into great stories.

Excelsior!

Tag, You’re It!

November 26th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Filing CardsStoryFanatic now has Tags! What the heck does that mean for the avid story structure reader? Click on to find out how weeks of mind-numbing re-categorizing on my part has led to an easier way for you to navigate through this site.

By far the coolest addition to this site1 is the implementation of “Tags.” At the bottom of every post now, before the comments, you’ll see a new section titled “Tags.” Tags are basically keywords that will instantly take you to other posts tagged with the same label.

New Tag Feature on StoryFanatic

Say you’re reading a post that mentioned something called the ‘Main Character Growth’ - a concept you’ve never heard before but one you’re interested in learning more about. All you have to do now is scroll down to the bottom of the post and click on the tag marked Main Character Growth. Quick and easy.

I’ve gone through and tagged every single post2 so you should be able to find exactly what you’re looking for.

New Archives

I’ve also added a tagcloud to the archives page. By clicking on the Archives link at the top of the page, you’ll be taken to a page that lists ALL the tags associated with posts on this site.

StoryFanatic Tagcloud

The more popular a concept (in other words, the more that is written about it), the bigger the tag.

I’ll also be adding a visual MindMap of all the tags that should be even more helpful than the tagcloud.

Other Improvements

There are a host of other things I’d like to fix around here. The most glaring, at least to me now, is the color scheme. I had no idea until a couple of weeks ago the vast difference in color space between a Mac and a PC. Apparently the gamma levels are set differently on both computers resulting in a pretty garish color scheme for those trying to read this site on a Mac. This is at the top of my list of things to do.

You’ll also notice that I have not been posting as often as I did earlier in the year. As I was adding tags to each and every post here, I began to notice a very interesting pattern in regards to the amount of posts for each month. From February to May a huge surge in postings occurs. This is balanced out by a huge slow down that occurs somewhere near the beginning of October.

I’m not sure exactly what that means to me as a writer or what time of year inspiration hits me, but I found it interesting nevertheless.

When I do kick up the pace again you can count on an increased number of video clippings and movie examples. This new Mac makes it so easy to put your own movies together that I can’t help but start venturing off into more visual territory.

Footnotes for this article

  1. Well, at least it’s something I would love!
  2. Not a small feat for a blog with over 200 posts!
