Frequent readers of this blog may notice a bit of a change. After days of constant going back and forth and countless pinging of Google, I think I’ve come up with a new perfect name for this blog. It’s a name that perfectly describes not only this blog, but also the person who writes it.
dailydramatica.com is now storyfanatic.com!
But why?
Basically I was tired of having to explain what exactly the URL was for my blog. “Daily what?” everyone would ask me. And then of course I’d have to explain exactly what Dramatica was and what a revolutionary approach to story structure it was and by then, they’d have completely forgotten why they were ever interested in the first place.
To those who have been subscribed for a long time rest assured that not much beyond the name and header graphic will change. 90% of what I write here will still be devoted to Dramatica and understanding that approach to better screenwriting. But I wanted to be able to write about other things having to do with screenwriting or other approaches to story I might come across, and I thought “daily dramatica” kind of restricted my subject material.
Plus, it was extremely stressful to keep up with the expectations of providing posts “daily.” I was doing it for awhile, but only at the expense of other things in my life. Besdies, my favorite articles to write have always been the long analysis posts and those take several days to write. Often, like writing a scene in a screenplay, I like to write an article first, then put it away for a couple of days so I can see it with fresh eyes. I always felt guilty not staying true to the original title of this blog; I know for a fact that I can easily fulfill the obligations of the second.
I love story and even more so, love writing about it. One could even go so far as to say that I’m quite “fanatical” in stealing time to write a blog post. Whether it’s the 30 minutes (or more) after a quick lunch or an analysis post that carries on until 2 in the morning, I’ll do anything to find time to write about this subject.
So the name fits.
Technical Mumbo-Jumbo Related to the Name Change
Hopefully, if all goes well, all the old links will easily transfer over. In other words, if you have a link that starts out with “http://dailydramatica.com/…,” within the next 24 hours it should automagically switch to “http://storyfanatic.com/…,” so you really don’t have to change anything (for the 2 or 3 people that actually link here!). Eventually, once my service contract ends for the dailydramatica.com server (sometime in the Spring of 2008), you will have to change those links, but by then hopefully everyone will come to recognize the new name.
If you subscribe to the RSS feed (which you really should!) you can grab it here. That part has changed and as such, the old feed will no longer provide you with the exciting and inspiring posts you’ve come to know and love.
For the most part this should be a smooth transition. I had a couple quirks here and there switching servers (for any other Wordpress users out there looking to switch domain names, don’t bother with trying to copy the SQL database - just start over fresh), but it seems like most of the problems have been fixed. If you notice anything missing or a show-stopping bug, please let me know.
Thanks again for reading, and when applicable, commenting. It’s wonderful to know that so many people are equally as interested in great storytelling.
