Certain elements of your story occur once per act. Others live throughout all the acts. Dramatica has a term for the latter.
When analyzing a film, sometimes it can be difficult to determine what the Concerns are for each throughline. If the story is told fully, you’ll see bits and pieces of each possible answer throughout the story. If you have a Main Character who operates within the Situation Domain, you’ll see chunks of the Future, the Past, Progress and The Present. Depending on how you look at it, either one can feel like the Concern.
But there is an easy way to see if you’ve picked the right one - do you see evidence of it at the beginning as well as at the end? Because between those two spots there is a great distance to travel, and if you’re seeing that element at both ends of the spectrum, chances are you’ve found the correct Concern.
