using Dramatica to write short stories

April 17th, 2006 · No Comments

Sometimes, when you’re just starting out writing a story, you want it to start out small. You have an idea for something, but you’re not sure if you’re ready to commit to an entire screenplay or a huge novel.

One of my favorite examples/analysis of using Dramatica concepts to write a short story is contained over in Katharine Monahan Huntley’s article on “The Catbird Seat.”

What I did was to take all those questions and just treat them as a sort of short-story Query System - answering them for my own stories.

Good stuff to help get you started.
