The following is for a Change Main Character:
Imagine going through your life in complete darkness. Your eyes are wide open, but you can’t see a thing. You can still function normally, but you do so oblivious to what might be around you.
Well then, someone comes along and shines a flashlight right in front of you. Suddenly you notice a wall! Somewhere a voice cries out, ”Hello!”
“Hey!” you think. “That’s a wall. There can’t be anyone on the other side!”
But then someone pokes a brick from above and it comes crashing down in front of you. Now you’ve got to deal with this wall and the mystery of who is on the other side.
What does this little story seek to explain?
Living in darkness is what it is like for the Main Character when he or she is fully justified. He can go through his daily routine without any problems. In fact, he doesn’t think they he has a problem at all.
Then the Impact Character comes along and shines that flashlight in front of him (also known as the Light of Critical Self-Awareness) - revealing that wall of Justification.
The Main Characters tries to laugh it off or ignore it. After all, it’s just a wall.
But then that Impact Character pokes one of the bricks and sends it crashing down!
And the story begins…

I’m working on a novel with a steadfast mc/protagonist. Could I say that she’s the one shining the flashlight and knocking down bricks until the change impact character gets the point?

Actually, there’s a different analogy for Steadfast characters that Chris told me about last week.
I’ll write it up in more detail in the posts coming up.
Basically, it’s more like that post I wrote called “clearing things up: Steadfast character.”
In that situation, the Impact Character is the one controlling the valve to let in all the water.
Again, I’ll elaborate more in the next couple of posts.
